Dockworkers, Seamen Want MWUN Boss “Adeyanju” To Contest Oyo, NLC Top Positions

Dockworkers and  Seamen/NIWA and Water Transport Branches of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) have endorsed the incumbent President General of the union, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju for a second term reelection.

 

The two branches gave their solidarity support on Monday in Lagos, even as they appealed to the union leader to consider contesting for either the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) top position or the Oyo State gubernatorial election. .

 

Speaking at the gathering as part of the next level  campaign ,  National President Dockworkers Branch, MWUN, Comrade Tajudeen Ohize Ibrahim described the incumbent President General as a father to all the dockers who have paid the price to ensure industry peace and harmony in port operations.

Ohize maintained that the President General MWUN deserved to be relevant after the second term reelection,  calling on members of the union to support in ensuring that Comrade Adeyanju gets the gubernatorial ticket from Oyo state.

 

He noted that the union has undergone massive transformation under the incumbent adding that Comrade Adewale Adeyanju has impacted in the lives of dockworkers and the other three branches.

“We have seen your impact in our lives and we want it to continue after the next four years .

 

“We want you to contest for Oyo State governorship election because you have what it takes to rule your state and we have the numerical strength to support you after the union’ s job.

 

Praying for the incumbent President General, Ohize harped on the need to sustain the industrial peace in the maritime industry, noting that the units ,districts and branches will support the national executives of the union to maintain orderliness and tranquility in port operations.

 

Highpoints of the event was the presentation of christened T-shirts, faz caps , nose masks and other campaign materials to support the second bid election of Comrade Adewale Adeyanju.

 

Also speaking ,Deputy President General of the union  Comrade Douglas Eromobor, stated the incumbent leader of the union was enable to fight for dockworkers detained by the Rivers State governor during the COVID19 pandemic era, pointing out that the singular act won the heart of members .

Eromobor maintained that Comrade Adeyanju has what it takes to be the next NLC President stressing that the union will solicit support for him to leader the apex body of the Congress.

On his part,Comrade Uche Igwe Onu expressed satisfaction over the industrial peace put in place by the current leadership of the union.

 

Igwe Onu who is the current National Treasurer of the union , affirmed that the four branches will continue to support the  incumbent for continuity and progress.

 

 

 

Comrade Adeyanju while appreciating all the members present at the gathering maintained that he has no political ambition but stressed the need to complete some unfinished projects.

 

“I want to leave a union that will be recognised and respected after completion of my eight years as PG of the union”, he stressed.

 

 

 

 

He promised to build a  union that will be  acceptable across the globe .

 

 

 

 

I am going to complete the areas that I am yet to touch in terms of welfare of workers. So, I want you people to give me necessary information and advice on areas that we need to touch.

“For you to achieve peace, you must understand the principles of forgiving anyone that offends you,”

 

“I want to advise anyone that will be aspiring for the he seat of the President General not to be tribalistic.

 

“The seat is not sectional but national. So, such a person must be able to carry everyone along for unison and oneness,” he quipped.

 

 

 

He therefore called on all members of the union to avail him with information on areas yet to be addressed by the union in the area of welfare package for the members.

 

Recall that Adeyanju has been severally praised for bringing unity into the union by reconciling warring parties so much that for the first time in the history of the union, all the four branches have come together to endorse only one candidate.

 

The NPA branch last week led a high powered delegates to show solidarity support for the second term reelection.
