Delta State Re-implements Full Payment Of Minimum Wage To Public Servants

The Delta State government on Friday, directed a return to the existing minimum wage structure for all public servants and a restoration of salaries of other public servants and political office holders to their pre-July 2020 reduced salaries position.

The directive is to take immediate effect.

In a circular issued from the office of the Delta State Accountant General, the government said that this decision was to mitigate the obvious and imminent hardship caused to workers by the impact of the recent dual increase in the pump price of petroleum products and electricity tariff.

Recall that in July 2020, the Delta State Government after due consultation with Organised Labor and other stakeholders in the state, suspended the payment of minimum wage to public servants and a reduction by 20 percent of the salaries of other public servants and political office holders, as a result of the economic downturn occassioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.
