Delta Sets To Shutdown Asaba Airport, Land Borders

Even as it has yet to record any reported cases of Coronavirus in the state , the Delta State Government has declared that the Asaba Airport will be closed to traffic as from 6am on Friday.

Governor of the state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa who disclosed this on Thursday also announced that at 6am on Sunday, March 29th, all land borders into and out of Delta State are to be shutdown.

Okowa advised residents of the State to stay at home as all businesses — malls, supermarkets, markets and shops are to remain closed as from 1st April.

Okowa also assured citizens that security will be heightened as law enforcement agencies will patrol streets and land border stations.

He noted in a statement that: “Friday 27th evening at 6pm, Asaba Airport will be closed to traffic. At 6am on Sunday, March 29th, all land borders into and out of Delta State are to be shut.

“From Wednesday, April 1st, all citizens and residents of Delta State are to stay at home and all businesses — malls, supermarkets, markets and shops are to remain closed.

*Food sellers are to conduct their businesses within the precinct of their homes and are required to strictly adhere to the social distancing rules.

“All our citizens and residents are advised that there will be increased security presence on the streets and land borders to ensure strict compliance with these directives that are meant to keep us all safe and healthy,”the Governor affirmed.
