Delta Govt Frowns At Union’s Flouting Social Distancing ,Boat Passengers Seating Directives

As part of measures to stop the spread of Covid-19 in the State, the Delta State Government has frowned at members of the Maritime Workers’Union of Nigeria (MWUN) flouting social distancing directive and boat passengers seating arrangements .

The Special Adviser to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State on Environment and Maritime Transport , Chief Daniel Yingi called on the Chairman of Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria, (MWUN), Seamen, NIWA and Water Transport branch Delta district Chief Boro Ekotoro warned that, the flagrant flouting of hand washing ,social distancing and non wearing of face mask by passengers and speed boat drivers has its on consequences .

The SA to Okowa called on all and sundry to heed to the measures being advised, urging leaders of branch to prevail on its members to adhere two-passengers-per-seat order by State Government .

Yingi, while speaking to journalists in Warri expressed displeasure over the MWUN members flouting the directives of social distancing in the seating arrangement of those travelling to the riverine parts of the State.

The Okowa ‘s aide noted that, Ughelli South and Udu Councils Area that have recorded Covid-19 cases also have riverine communities, adding that it was wrong for the MWUN members and coastal dwellers to assert that, Covid-19 is an urban virus.

He further held that the proactive measures put in place by Governor Okowa should not been seen as too stringent but for the safety and wellbeing of Deltans.

Yingi speaking further, he charged the union leadership to take a clue from their counterpart, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) who now carry five passengers in their Siena van in compliance to the directives.
