Customs To Redeploy Officers At Tin Can 2 Command , As NPA Takes Over Terminal

As the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) formally takes over the Lilypond terminal at Ijora for the call up system initiative, management of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has said officers and men at the command would be re deployed to other commands and customs formations or units under Zone A.

 

Speaking with our correspondent in his office recently, the National Public Relations Officer of NSC, Deputy Comptroller Joseph Attah did not state exactly when the officers would be re deployed out of Tin Can 2 command but added that management of the service was taking necessary actions to attend to the officers in view of their redeployment.

According to Attah , “Redeployment of our officers and men at Lilypond command is going to take place soon because management is attending to them.

He maintained that the service needs more personnel that will help to man the porous borders, and to help in carrying out physical examinations as a result of inadequate non-intrusive equipments.

Attah noted that “If it is going to lead to redundancy, then we should not even embark on the current recruitment exercise. We need more hands, a lot more hands.

“Here we are we are talking about porous border, here we are we are talking about inadequate non-intrusive equipment such as scanners and all that demand physical examination and the physical examination is a tedious process and it is part of what delays clearance time,” he stated.

 

Meanwhile, our correspondent visited the Ijora based facility on Tuesday it was gathered that the NPA has already taken possession of the building formerly occupied by Lilypond Nigerian Limited .

 

There were about fifty trucks parked at the terminal as part of the call system initiative put in place by the NPA.
