CUSTOMS: Tin Can Island Command Surpasses 2025 Revenue Target By ₦51.8 Billion

In a major boost to federal revenue, the Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has exceeded its 2025 fiscal year target of ₦1,524,669,999,478.52, generating a whopping ₦1,576,507,651,601.84 as of the latest report.

This ₦51,837,652,129.32 surplus underscores the command’s aggressive revenue strategies amid rising trade volumes.

Addressing journalists in Lagos on Tuesday, Customs Area Controller of Tin Can Island Port Command , Comptroller Frank Onyeka highlighted key drivers behind the hike.

According to him, during the press briefing. Bulk cargo, general merchandise, and used vehicle imports emerged as top revenue generators, fueled by diligent examinations and strict adherence to procedures that ensured full collection on high-volume trades.

Streamlining operations played a pivotal role, the customs boss noted that the command tackled revenue leakages by slashing multiple unnecessary alerts, boosting clearance efficiency, and enhancing internal coordination.

He stated that”These reforms minimized delays and abuse, directly amplifying collections without compromising oversight.Stakeholder partnerships supercharged results.

“Regular engagements with importers, licensed agents, terminal operators, and shipping companies fostered compliance and an enabling trade environment, spurring higher legitimate volumes through the port.

“Enforcement efforts further protected revenue streams. Intelligence-led operations led to seizures of prohibited and mis -declared goods, blocking illicit imports and safeguarding economic integrity—actions that prevented potential losses while upholding security.

The Controller credited Comptroller-General Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for strategic leadership emphasizing professionalism, automation, and stakeholder collaboration.
