Customs, Nigerian Economic Society Deepen Partnership To Boost National Economic Growth

In a renewed commitment to fostering Nigeria’s economic development, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Economic Society (NES) are intensifying their collaboration ahead of the NES Annual Conference, slated for 8–11 September 2025 in Abuja.

The NES National President, Professor Adeola Adenikinju, alongside a delegation from the Governing Council and the FCT Chapter Chairman, paid a courtesy visit to the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adawale Adeniyi, at the NCS headquarters in Abuja recently.

During the meeting, CGC Adeniyi highlighted the complementary roles of the two organisations, noting that while NES provides rigorous economic research and policy guidance, the Customs Service is vital to trade facilitation, revenue generation, and enforcing fiscal policies that impact the nation’s economy. He stressed the importance of synchronising economic research with Nigeria’s border operations to enhance policy effectiveness and improve trade competitiveness.

Professor Adenikinju formally invited the CGC to share his expertise at the upcoming conference, emphasising the strategic value of Customs’ proprietary data on trade flows, revenue trends, and cross-border commerce in informing sound economic policies.

In recognition of his leadership and contributions to modernising Customs operations, increasing revenue collection, and introducing innovative trade facilitation initiatives, the NES has nominated Comptroller-General Adeniyi for the 2025 Distinguished Public Service Award (DPSNES). This prestigious honour celebrates public servants who have made significant strides in advancing Nigeria’s economic development goals.

The nomination underscores the transformational impact of the current Customs leadership and ongoing reforms that are strengthening Nigeria’s economic stability and growth trajectory.
