To prevent the spread of the dreaded coronavirus, Niger State Governor, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has ordered immediate clean-up of prisons in the state by way of fumigating the correctional centers.
The move to fumigate prisons is part of the governmentโs commitment to safeguarding the public health of its citizens.
Muawiyah Yusuf Muye, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media said in a statement made available to newsmen, on Sunday that the Niger State Environmental Protection Agency, NISEPA, has started a vast disinfection and fumigation campaign of Correctional Centers in the state.
“This is to help keep COVID-19 out of prisons and ultimately avoid the spread.
“This exercise has since been carried out in Minna Medium Prison and Bida Correctional Facility, while Kontagora Prison will be next to be fumigated.
Governor Sani Bello had previously approved the fumigation exercise to disinfect all markets and other public areas across the state following the recorded cases of COVID-19 pandemic in the country in March.
The governor has called for maximum cooperation and support from the citizens and urged them to wear face masks if they must go out and adhere to the restriction guidelines issued by relevant agencies.
