COVID19: After N60m Donation To FG: Terminal Operator Sacks Over 20 Staff In June, Scraps Departmental Units

Barely two months it donated a whooping N60,000,000 to the Federal Government in the fight against COVID19 pandemic, seaport concessionaire, Josepdam Port Services Limited (JPS) has sacked at least twenty staff in the month of June 2020, DAILYFOCUS NIGERIA has confirmed.

Multiple sources told our correspondent in Lagos, last week that the downsizing of its workforce was attributed to the COVID19 pandemic impact on port operations .

Our reliable sources said the decision to sack some of the workers was reached by the newly constituted management board of the terminal operator in a view to cut cost.

The workers dismissal, it was gathered took effect from the beginning of June 2020, even as some department were allegedly scrapped due to docile contribution to the growth of the company.

It was gathered last week that five of its senior staff were affected in the downsizing exercise.

The affected units according to our impeccable sources include 3 managers and two senior executives, while others affected include those with auxillary and ancillary services to the company.

Authoritative sources, said department affected in the downsizing exercise include; Commercial ; Human Resource ; Accountant; Business Development and Audit.

The port concessionaire is the current owners of Terminal A, Tin Can Island Port Complex (TCIPC ).

JSP has three berths to its credit with a total of 484 meters in length at TICP.

The terminal successfully entered the concession agreement with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in 2006.

The terminal handles cargoes like bulk, general, break bulk and project cargoes.

With three berths of 13.5 meters at her disposal, JSP has the capacity to accommodate 45,000 metric tonnes of ships.

Meanwhile, effort to get the reaction of the terminal operator proved abortive as test messages sent to the managing director, Simon Travers were not responded as at press time.
