COVID-19: Ekiti Govt Commissions 187 Solar Direct Drive Cold Chain Equipment

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state has commissions 187 Solar Direct Drive Cold Chain Equipment to facilitate uninterrupted availability and distribution of vaccines (including #COVID19 vaccine) in their optimal storage temperature and quality in Ekiti State.

 

According to a statement on Tuesday, the state government said this was made possible through collaborative and counterpart funding of Ekiti State with the Federal Government.

Recall that in the New Year address, Governor Fayemi promised to install Solar-powered refrigerators for vaccine storage in 177 Primary Healthcare Centers (1 per Ward).

The total number of refrigerators expected is 231, while 187 have been received, the remaining 44 are underway.

 

The statement said “This is another promise made and kept, as Ekiti people will have better access to life-saving vaccines to safeguard them against avoidable death due to infectious diseases.

 

 

 

The Cold Chain equipment that was commissioned today, means coordinated events in temperature-controlled environments to store, manage and transport the lifesaving products otherwise known as vaccines which must be continuously stored in a limited temperature range from the time they are manufactured until the moment of vaccination.

This will also enhance the State’s immunization activities towards curbing preventable deaths and attainment of health for all.

 

The idea of immunization is to ensure that no child less than 5 years or pregnant woman is left out of vaccination processes in the efforts to improve the neonatal, infant, and maternal health indices.
