COREN Grants Full Accreditation To Seven LAUTECH Courses

The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria ( COREN) has given full accredited to  all seven engineering courses at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH),in Oyo State .

 

The Public Relations Officer of LAUTECH, Lekan Fadeyi, disclosed this in a  statement on Friday.

 

 

The accredited courses listed in the letter included Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Mechanical engineering.

 

Others are Agricultural Engineering, Computer as well as Food Engineering.

 

 

 

The statement noted that Registrar of the Council, Engr. Prof. Joseph Odigure, communicated the accreditation to the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Michael Ologunde, in a letter dated April 7, 2021.

 

 

“The effective date of the accreditation will be between February 25, 2021, and February 24, 2026,” it added.

 

 

 

While congratulating the Vice-Chancellor on the success recorded during the exercise which took place between February 21 and 25, 2021, COREN said, “There will be post-accreditation visits to the programmes to check the state of facilities and personnel”.

 

 

Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, it would be recalled, addressed issues surrounding the strike action by some state-owned tertiary institutions, declaring that the state will resolve the matter within the month.

 

The governor, however, explained that the decision to engage Platinum Consultants, which is the crux of the matter between the state and some of the institutions, became imperative to ensure transparency and accountability in the system.

 

According to the governor, his administration’s desire to improve the quality of education in the state had led to its scaling up the subventions to tertiary institutions from 50 per cent to 100 per cent.

 

Makinde who spoke shortly after inaugurating the Governing Council of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, said that the government had to engage Platinum Consultants to look into the Internally Generated Revenue activities in the tertiary institutions.

 

He said: “Let me also use this opportunity to talk about the lingering crisis at The Polytechnic Ibadan. Though most of the other tertiary institutions that embarked on the strike action have backed off, it is remaining only The Polytechnic Ibadan.

 

“The students were at the Secretariat the other day to make their grievances known and we listened to them. But I must make this very clear; we would not have got into this situation if those schools’ governing councils did their jobs transparently and honestly.
