CONDOLENCE :  MWUN Visits Late Otunba Folarin’ s Residence, Burial Rites To Hold January 2023

High powered delegates from the Comrade Adewale Adeyanju led Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) on Wednesday , paid a condolence visit to the residence of Late Otunba Kunle Folarin in Lagos.

The visit led by Union’s President General was part of efforts to commiserate with families of the late maritime legend .

The delegates include;  representatives from the  national and branch executives of the MWUN.

 

Recall that Otunba Kunle Folarin died last week Tuesday in Lagos, even as maritime stakeholders have continued to mourn the icon. He died at the  aged of 81

 

He was born 28th November 1940.

 

Speaking , at the residence in Festac Town, Adeyanju noted that Late Folarin will continue to ring a bell in the heart of the union members, describing him (Late Folarin) as  the most experienced and versatile personality in the maritime sector.

 

He reiterated the Union’s commitment to support the burial arrangement urging the late Folarin’s wife to be strong.

 

Adeyanju added that the four branches of the MWUN will always appreciate the late legend contributions to the maritime  Industry .

 

 

Adeyanju said late Folarin employed him as tally clerks during days of Alraine Shipping Company noting that he contributed his own quota to the maritime sector.

 

He recalled that Late Otunba Folarin’ was instrumental and proactive to better  the lots of Seafarers and dockworkers respectively.

 

“Baba was the one that tutored all of us in this industry and we felt there was the need for us to visit the family.

 

“About three weeks ago , a ran into Baba in Abuja and we spoke extensively but unfortunately I never knew that will be the last interaction with him,”Adeyanju stressed.

While responding, daughter of Otunba Kunle Folarin, Olamide Adeosun,  expressed excitement over the presence of the unions visit adding that the maritime sector really acknowledged the  role late Otunba Kunle Folarin.

 

She disclosed that the burial rites is expected to hold in January but no date fixed for arrangement.

 

She further thanked the union executives for the visit , saying that Chief Executives Officers from various parastatals and agencies from the maritime sector had visited the residence of the late icon.

 

“We are blown away with what we are seeing because we came to realised that the maritime sector is a phenomenal. Its amazing and heartwarming to us. Even though you all are not together. We are so blessed with the visits of maritime stakeholders.

 

“We are yet to finalise the plans for the burial but we are looking at January 2023 and we realised that it is now a family affair and the maritime industry is now part of the family”,she noted.

 

Deputy President General,MWUN, Comrade Harry Tonye Leonard stated that late Folarin was proactive while aging describing him as encyclopedia in maritime affairs.
