COMTUA To Unveil 2 Insurance Firms For Truck Drivers, Motor Boys Welfare Packages

The Council of Maritime Transport Unions and Associations (COMTUA), has disclosed plans to engage two reputable insurance companies, as part of measures to boost welfare packages for truck drivers and their assistants.

President of COMTUA , Mr. Olaleye Thompson who disclosed this recently in Lagos, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to ensuring a be¹fitting insurance policy for drivers under it’s membership.

Speaking with our correspondent, Thompson identified the two insurance companies as NEM Insurance PLC and Mutual Benefits Assurance PLC respectively.

The COMTUA boss said talks have already commenced between the council’s executives and the two insurance companies on how to conclude the policies for the port haulage drivers, assuring that premium payment may likely commence in January 2021.

He noted that : “We have discussed with these two insurance companies and we are good to go. The brokers were around earlier in the week and the discussion was fruitful .

However, he affirmed that”We have rescheduled another meeting for next week but I can assure you that the outcome of the meeting will definitely be a win win situation for all of us.

Continuing, the President stressed that “We meted this idea even before the inauguration of COMTUA executives and we will further engage the insurance companies and decide which of them we will work with at the end of the meeting.

He also explained that registration was ongoing to ascertain the number of drivers and motor boys involved in the project , pointing out that a committee was set up to oversee the exercise.

“Collation of the names of drivers and motor boys is already ongoing in all the affiliate unions and associations to enable us get the comprehensive list faster and quicker.

Thompson who is the Managing Director, Thom Lee Nigeria Limited , maintained that: “Once that is done we can proceed to the next level of engagement with the insurance brokers for processing .”

“The insurance policy is key to us and we working round the clock to make sure we get it done for the drivers and others. I know we will get it right this time around because its a new innovation to our sub sector”, Thompson added.
