Comptroller Ben Oramalugo Launches 2nd Edition Of “Customs Administration In Nigeria”

The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service hosted a significant event on Wednesday, 16 July 2025, with the official launch of the second edition of Customs Administration in Nigeria, authored by the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Ben Oramalugo, PhD, FCIA, FNIM.

According to a statement released on Thursday, 17 July 2025, by the command’s spokesman, Chief Superintendent of Customs Isah Sulaiman, the book reflects years of professional experience, academic research, and policy engagement. In his keynote address, Comptroller Oramalugo described the revised edition as more than just a collection of chapters. It addresses emerging challenges in customs operations, incorporates reforms under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, and aligns with international standards in trade facilitation, security, and border management.

Highlighting the rapidly evolving nature of global trade and customs, he said, “The rise of digital customs and the expanding role of Customs in national security demand a scholarly response.” He added, “This book aims to provide a practical framework for understanding, navigating, and improving customs systems in Nigeria and beyond.”

Comptroller Oramalugo also emphasized the importance of intellectual growth in enhancing professional excellence, urging officers to commit to continuous learning. “A knowledgeable officer is a more effective officer. A disciplined mind is a catalyst for institutional excellence,” he stated.

The event attracted numerous dignitaries, including heads and representatives from security and regulatory agencies at the Seme-Krake Joint Border Post—such as Immigration Controllers, the DSS Director, NAFDAC Director, Commander of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service, and representatives from NDLEA, Nigeria Police Anti-Bomb Unit, Port Health Services, and other key border stakeholders.

In their goodwill remarks, agency leaders lauded the Customs Area Controller for his intellectual leadership and dedication to professionalism. They also commended the ongoing transformation in the Nigeria Customs Service, underscoring its increasing role in economic growth and national security.

Comptroller Oramalugo expressed gratitude to the reviewers, editors, and contributors of the book and acknowledged the support of the CGC and Customs management for fostering a culture of knowledge, discipline, and reform.

The second edition of Customs Administration in Nigeria is poised to become a vital reference for policymakers, academics, practitioners, and students involved in customs and border governance in Nigeria and the West African sub-region.
