CILT Harps On Effective Safety Mechanism In Aviation Sector

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT),Nigeria has harped on the need for the nation’s airports to prioritise safety and security measures in its day to day operational activities.

The institute is the leading international professional body for transport and logistics industry founded in the United Kingdom.

CILT in Nigeria was established in 1958 under the umbrella of the parent body in UK with branches across the country.

The institute in its 2019 edition also inducted a total of seven distinguished personalities from the transport sub sector with fellow honours .

Speaking at the 2019 CILT Leadership Impact Programme and Dinner on Tuesday in Lagos, Chairman of the event and Managing Director ,Flux Logistix Limited, Mr. Solomon Aigbavboa , said standards and safety in the aviation sector must not be compromised , even as he stressed the need for effective and efficient management.

Aigbavboa who is a fellow of the institute lamented that despite the dearth of national carrier in the nation’s aviation sector, there was the need for government to take the advantage of her huge population potentials to work closely with the neighbouring countries in the sub region.

The MD Flux Logistix ,noted that safety is paramount to all sector of the economy, added that the aviation sector must be 100% positive to attain international best practices and standards.

The Chairman called for the interconnectivity of all mode of transportation in the country, which according to him , is a major challenge to drive the industry forward.

He expressed hopes that government and privates would resolve in addressing the challenges confronting the rail linkage to other modes of transportation .

Also speaking at the event, National President of CILT Nigeria, Mr . Ibrahim Jubril stated that all sector in the economy rely heavily on the transport industry thus efforts must be put in place ensure safety of goods and passengers.

Jubril who was represented by the Deputy National President Dr. Alban Igwe reiterated that a country without effective mode of transportation system would suffer economy challenges.

He also added that the Nigerian aviation sector must be technological driven in promoting international trade.

On his part International Vice President of the institute, Mr. Francis Ehiguese stressed the need for the nation’s aviation sector to improve on its facilities.

Ehiguese noted that smart operations in the industry was key in the developmental capacity in boosting economy growth , pointing out that swift response to passengers’ demand must be technological driven by both government and private operators .

According to him, issues bothering on automation of the industry should be the focal point to eliminate human interface across the nation’s airports.

Highpoint of the year’s event was the lecture presentation by the Managing Director ,Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Captain Rabiu Hamisu Yadudu who spoke on the topic: Airport Operations and Standards of Safety in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, fellows that were inducted at the event include: Fagbemi Olatokunbo, Mr. Agboarumi Basil, Alex Okosun and Christian Chigbundu .

Others are Brigadier General, Mohammed Waziri Abubakar ,Ukeagu Nnamdi and Herbert Odika.
