CGC CONFERENCE: Customs Lobbies Port Concessionaires To Provide Scanners

Port concessionaires will be advised to provide scanning machines to boost trade facilitation, Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Adewale Adeniyi has disclosed.
Adewale who spoke at the CGC Conference on Friday in Lagos reiterated that talks are ongoing between government and terminal operators for the need to promote trade and seamless port operations.
The Customs top brass affirmed that a meeting will be held in the first quarter of 2024 in furtherance for the terminal operators to provide scanners for seamless cargo clearance.
According to him, an elaborate meeting that will involve the Federal Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and the port concessionaires will take place in the early part of next year, adding that the purpose of the gathering would focus on provision of scanners by the multinationals.
Adeniyi stated that all free zone operations would be carried along in the proposed meeting for scanners provision noting that the laws give room for the concessionaires to possess scanners for port operations.
Speaking on the CGC Conference, Adeniyi said that the forum gladdens his heart to bring together stakeholders from the port industry in proffering lasting solutions to some hiccups militating against the port industry noting that there are enormous potentials and benefits from the conference.
He assured that there will new commitments and policies 2024 in line with international best practices adding that solutions are key to addressing most of the issues raised by the stakeholders .
Speaking at the Conference, the CGC stated that the Nigeria Customs Service constantly strives for performance in all its engagements.
He said, “Our commitment to using meticulous data management to improve security and trade and positively engage with its stakeholders is actively on and running.”
To wrap up the day’s activities, a gala night/dinner was organised, aligning with the CGC’s commitment to ensure a work-life balance.
The event featured a beauty walk by senior female Officers as well as comedy and musical performances.
