CDHR To IGP : Hold Delta Council Boss Responsible If Any Harm Is Inflicted On Our Chairman

The Delta State Chapter of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR said if any harm is inflicted on its State Chairman, Prince Kehinde-Taiga, the Inspector-General of Police,IGP, Mohammad Adamu should hold the Ughelli Council Chairman, Dr. Richard Kofi and his cohorts responsible.

 

The CDHR made the call in a petition signed by its Secretary, Comrade Jonathan Giama.

 

The human rights group said the Council boss allegedly assembled suspected cultists and signed a peace accord with two suspected cult groups who allegedly terrorized and killed one Mr. Johnson Taiga, elder brother to CDHR Chairman.

 

The CDHR said the Security Personnel the DPO, Otu-Jeremi Division, SP Chimezie Ukachukwu and the OC JTF Commander, Capt. A A Jarma witnessed the criminal Peace Accord between the suspected cult groups.

 

The CDHR added that an official of the State Security Services,SSS, Ikechi Okay and Mr. S.C. Oghor Alfred, DO NSCDC amongst others were also witnesses.

 

The CDHR said the peace accord convened by the Ughelli Council Chairman was a ploy to cover up to frustrate the investigation of the murder of Mr. Johnson Taiga which is currently being handled by the Delta State Police Command.

 

It stressed that,”Majority of persons in this faceless groups are cultists who are loyalists to politicians in the State.”

 

The CDHR noted that the efforts of the Delta State Police Command in raiding affected in search of suspected cultists is currently being jeopardized by the deceptive peace accord led by the Ughelli Council Chairman.

 

According to the CDHR, “That Hon. Dr. Richard Kofi should be made to explain why must the said peace accord be signed immediately after the death of Mr. Johnson Taiga?

 

” That why did Hon. Dr. Richard Kofi not announce the identities of the said groups during the signing of the said Peace Accord?

 

“That why did Hon. Dr. Richard Kofi affirmed his relationship with the said faceless groups and made faceless groups to sign an undertaken that they will be held responsible if further attacks takes place?

 

” That why will a Local Government Chairman, Hon. Dr. Richard Kofi fraternize with suspected cultists?

 

“That the deceptive Peace Accord will give room to cultism and its activities in Ughelli South LGA as majority of the boys arrested by the Delta State Police Command will be released without prosecuting them in a Court of competent jurisdiction.

 

“That it should be noted here that the said deceptive Peace Accord orchestrated by Hon. Dr. Richard Kofi has now constitutes threat to the life of the Delta State CDHR’s Chairman, Comrade (DT.) Prince Kehinde-Taiga and identified with the late Mr. Johnson Taiga.”

 

The CDHR also called on the IGP,”To carry out proper investigation on the matter and bring the killers of Mr. Johnson Taiga to justice and further restrained Hon. Dr. Richard Kofi and his cohorts from carrying further threat on the lives of the Delta State CDHR’s Chairman life and immediate family.

 

It would be recalled that Mr. Johnson Taiga, elder brother to the Delta State CDHR’s Chairman was murdered in cold blood by suspected cultists at Edjophe Community, hometown of the Delta State Attorney-General, Mr. Peter Mrakpor recently in Ughelli South Local Government Area.

 

The gunmen who were said to be about in numbers, stormed the area with four motorcycles, shot sporadically into the air to scare residents before killing the deceased who was also macheted.
