Canada Deports 366 Nigerians In 2025, As 974 Awaits Deportation 2026
The Canadian government says it has deported 366 Nigerians from January to October 2025, marking a significant uptick in immigration enforcement, per Canada Border Services Agency data.
The government announced another 974 Nigerians remain in “removal in progress” status, awaiting deportation.

Nigeria placed ninth on the list of top countries for removals in 2025—the sole African nation included. Deportation numbers for Nigerians had dipped from 339 in 2019 to 199 in 2022 before surging eight percent above 2019 levels this year.
This fits into Canada’s broader crackdown, with nearly 400 foreign nationals deported weekly. The 2024–2025 fiscal year saw over 18,000 removals at a cost of roughly $78 million, mostly failed refugee claimants, with fewer on criminal or security grounds.
Even amid these efforts, Canada stays a top draw for Nigerians, who rank high among new permanent residents and citizens.
