BREAKING: Union Shutdown INTELS Operations Over Fresh Disengagement Of Workers

Dockworkers numbering over 600 at the Onne seaport, south south Nigeria , have shutdown operational activities of Intels Nigeria Limited over disengagement of workers again.

 

As at the time of filing this report , our correspondent gathered that the workers closed the entry gate of the port  concessionaire thus grounding operational activities .

 

 

 

 

 

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria MWUN in November 2020, issued a seven –day warning notice to management of Intels Nigeria Ltd., to reinstate 600 of its staff who were recently disengaged from their jobs.

Management of Intels, Association of Maritime Service (AMS ) and the union had earlier fixed October 22nd 2020 for a meeting in line with labour dispute but was stalled by the #ENDSARS protect by Nigerian youths.

 

But against the backdrop of the development, President General MWUN,Comrade Adewale Adeyanju on Wednesday, confirmed also the ongoing situation at Onne port , even as he expressed shock on yesterday’s sudden U-turn by the terminal operator to disengage the workers after meeting with the union.

The PG noted that INTELS was trying to be smart and the workers have every right to down tools at the facility.

Adeyanju recalled that the union had issued seven day ultimatum to the concessionaire and its consultant  Associates Maritime Service (AMS) had agreed to resolve the issues bothering on workers sack,which according to him, resulted to  their reinstatements.

 

“The workers have every right to take destiny into their hands by shutting down the terminal because we met with them just last months and they agreed to recall the workers which they did.

 

“Management of  INTELS are calling as we speak but I want that action to continue at Onne port”,he affirmed.
