The Nigeria Shipowners Association (NISA) on Thursday elected new executives to pilot its affairs for two years.
The election held in Lagos saw Otunba Sola Adewumi emerged as the new president of the association.
The NISA general election 2023, contest between Mr. Paul Jegede and Otunba Sola Adewumi saw a landslide victory for the post of president.
While Mr. Paul Jegede, the Managing Director , Japaul Group garnered a total of 2 votes, Sola Adewumi had a total of 21 votes .
Speaking with journalists shortly after the victory, the newly elected president, pledged to work closely with members of the association and other relevant stakeholders in the shipping Industry.
The newly elected president further promised to revamp the moribund secretariat of the association adding that the Nigerian Maritime Expo NIMAREX will be on focus before the end of the year .
He also promised to work closely with members of the association adding that all hands will be on deck to change the narratives of the shipping business in Nigeria.
According to him, plans are already afoot to reunite ship owners in Nigeria , stressing the need for practitioners in the sub sector of the maritime sector to speak with one voice .
Meanwhile, Otunba Olawale Jubril emerged unopposed for the post of General Secretary , NISA with 20 votes.
However, Gbolahan Adu emerged Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Malik as Financial Secretary and Wor-Degbetuwa Sammy emerged Treasurer.
Also speaking, Chief Isaac Jolapomo, founding father and former President of NISA called on the newly elected executives to work closer with members.
Jolapomo further expressed satisfaction of the election , while urging losers in the contest to support the new executives in order to help grow NISA.
