BREAKING: Police Suspend Tinted Glass Permit Enforcement After Court Order
The Nigeria Police Force has suspended its planned nationwide enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy following an interim order of court restraining the exercise.
Recall that the Force had on 15 December 2025 announced that enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy would resume from 2 January 2026 as part of efforts to enhance public safety and internal security.
However, on 17 December 2025, the Police were served with an interim order in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, stopping the Force from proceeding with the enforcement pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or the vacation of the order.In compliance with the court’s directive, the Nigeria Police Force has now placed the enforcement of the policy on hold across the country.
The case has been adjourned to 20 January 2026 for further proceedings.Police authorities said the Force has entered appearance in court, filed preliminary objections, and formally applied for the vacation of the interim order, stressing its commitment to constitutionalism and respect for judicial processes.

But in a statement on Thursday January 1 2026 , The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed that the Force remains committed to the rule of law while carrying out its core mandate of protecting lives and property.
The statement t was issued by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, anipr, mipra, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, on 1 January 2026.
He added that the Police will continue to rely on lawful, intelligence-driven strategies to tackle security challenges nationwide.
