In a dramatic escalation amid the spiraling security crisis in the Middle East, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the world’s largest container line, has issued an urgent lockdown on its fleet.

Citing severe restrictions on maritime traffic through the choke-point Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb strait—key arteries for global oil and cargo flows—MSC is pulling all vessels from the Gulf region to “designated safe shelter areas” until the danger passes.
