There was an early fire outbreak on Saturday, May 13 2023, at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC ), Ikeja, Lagos State Command’s Headquarters, with some seizures affected in the cause of the inferno.
Though there was no casualty cases as a result of the outbreak, men of the command in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire service were able to combat the fire successfully which occured around 3.30am local time.
Similarly , the identity of the affected seizures gutted by fire were not disclosed by authorities of the command.
According to a statement e-signed by signed by DSC Abolurin Oluwaseun, Civil Defence PRO, Lagos State Command the fire outbreak, engulfed the storage section housing some exhibits recovered, by the command, through various operational activities.
Abolurin said ” Today, Saturday, 13th May, 2023, at about 03:30hrs the officers and men on duty at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC ), Lagos State Command’s Headquarters, were shocked by an unpalatable sound traced to a section of the storage facility, where a few exhibits stored in kegs are usually, kept.
“The unpalatable sound turned out to be a fire outbreak, which engulfed the storage section housing some few exhibits recovered, by the command, through various operational activities.
“On getting to know about this ugly incident, the NSCDC, Lagos State Commandant, Commandant of Corps Usman Ishaq Alfadarai, immediately, leveraged, on the synergy between the Corps and the Lagos State Fire Service, who responded in a jiffy to assist the disaster management unit and the command’s personnel, on duty to put out the fire and bring the situation under absolute control, without further delay.
While responding to the ugly incident ,Lagos State Commandant of the Corps, Usman Ishaq Alfadarai was also quoted in the statement extolling the commitment of the Corps’ personnel on duty and the support of the Lagos State Fire Serve in putting the sudden outbreak under total control and ensuring the safety of lives and property , in furtherance for the protection of all critical national assets and infrastructure around the entire command .
Alfadarai, who arrived at the scene, within a short time of notice, said, “The command will unravel the cause of the fire outbreak, adding that it was important to extol the commitment of the Corps’ personnel on duty and the unquantifiable support of the Lagos State Fire Serve in putting the sudden outbreak under total control, with the professional zeal to ensuring the safety of lives and property and protection of all critical national assets and infrastructure around the section, where the outbreak occured, such as galaxy, access bank and other government facilities, which remain a top priority of our Core mandates.”
According to the statement , no casualty was recorded because of the unprecedented response aforementioned above apart from the ugly colouration of the storage section caused due to the fire incident.
Notwithstanding, the Lagos State Commandant promised to ensure a total repair and rehabilitation of the engulfed storage facility and build better one with all modern safety facilities within a very short time.
