BLOOD DONOR DAY 2020: LASUTH Don Tasks Stakeholders To Create More Awareness

The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) is set to join the rest of the world to commemorate World Blood Donor Day with the theme โ€œSafe Blood Saves Livesโ€ on Sunday, June 14, 2020, just as Dr. Adedoyin Dosunmu, a Consultant Hematologist in the hospital charged stakeholders to create sustained awareness on the importance of blood donation.

According to him, in keeping with the mandate of the World Health Organisation (WHO) advising all countries to celebrate, thank individuals who donate blood and encourage more people to start donating, the Haematology Department of LASUTH, in conjunction with the Lagos State Ministry of Health, is organising a blood donation programme in LASUTH on the 14th and 15th June, 2020.

Dr. Dosunmu said the programme would be used as an avenue to charge stakeholders with creating a sustained awareness on the importance of blood donation and as a reminder to honour those heroes who regularly donate blood to save the lives of people in need of it.

โ€œWe professionals have the responsibility to continually remind the populace of the need to donate blood voluntarily, at least three times in a year to help othersโ€, he said.

While noting that medals will be awarded to some donors based on the pints of blood they have given so far, Dosumu implored givers not to relent in donating blood for the benefit of humanity.
