Benue Relaxes COVID19 Measures, As Churches To Hold Four Sessions

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom on Wednesday, announced that churches and mosques should hold staggered worship sessions beginning from today.

Ortom’s declaration was in line with the review of the COVID-19 measures put in place by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on the pandemic.

Terver Akase ,Chief Press Secretary to the Governor in a statement noted that : “This implies that a church or mosque which before now held two worship sessions should henceforth conduct four or more sessions in a day to ensure physical distancing.

Akase who quoted the Governor further stated that each worship session must not last more than one hour, adding that churches and mosques should endeavour to provide water, soap and alcohol based hand sanitizers for worshippers, and should insist on wearing of face masks.

According to him, Benue State civil servants on grade levels 1 to 12 are to resume work on June 8, 2020, pointing out that workers are advised to always wear face masks and maintain physical distancing as they go to work.

He added tha markets are to be opened but subject to physical distancing protocol on COVID-19,stressing that public gatherings are permitted with a maximum of 30 persons who must comply with the protocol of COVID-19.

On boundary related issues , the Governor noted that Inter-state movement remains banned, except those on essential services.

” The prevailing curfew in the State has been reviewed to now last between the hours of 10pm to 4am daily, until further notice.

” Schools remain closed till further notice”, he affirmed.

Governor Ortom has appreciated the people of Benue State for the cooperation and understanding.
