Bayelsa Seeks FG Approval Of Agge Deep Seaport, Brainstorm With Marine/Blue Economy Ministry

The Bayelsa State Government has restated commitment to tap into the maritime domain with the plan for massive investment in aquaculture.

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri who disclosed in Abuja on Monday during a meeting with the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency, Adegboyega Oyetola, solicited the Federal Government’s approval for the development of the Deep Seaport in Agge community, Ekeremor Local Government Area.

Diri explained that the state is being intentional in the drive to diversify the economy with the establishment of Bayelsa State Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

The Governor added that as a government, its already building road infrastructures to hit the Atlantic Ocean at Agge, Brass, and Koluama across the three Senatorial Districts of the State.

He noted in a statement that “Today in Abuja, I had a very fruitful and rewarding meeting with the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency, Adegboyega Oyetola, to seek partnership on the development of that sector in Bayelsa State.

“Our Government of Prosperity is being intentional in the drive to diversify our economy with the establishment of our own State Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

“We are well positioned and prepared to tap into the maritime domain with our plan for massive investment in aquaculture.

“The plans by the Federal Government, as espoused by the minister, to develop a strategic document and blueprint for the Ministry is a welcome initiative.

“I seized the opportunity of the meeting to reopen discussion on the Federal Government’s approval for the development of the Deep Seaport in Agge community, Ekeremor Local Government Area and I am glad that the disposition of the Honourable Minister to this project is very positive.

As a government, we are already building road infrastructures to hit the Atlantic Ocean at Agge, Brass, and Koluama across the three Senatorial Districts of the State.

My team, led by the Honourable Commissioner in charge of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Faith Izibenua Zibs-Godwin and the Director-General of the Bayelsa Investment Promotion Agency (BIPA), Patience Ranami Abah, will now follow up on all our discussions with the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy for timely implementation.
