Bayelsa Govt Describes Agge Deep Seaport As Nigeria’s Next Billion-Dollar Maritime Goldmine

The Bayelsa State government is calling on global investors to seize a “compelling commercial opportunity” in the Agge Deep Seaport project, positioning it as a transformative hub for trade, logistics, and industrial growth in Nigeria’s resource-rich Niger Delta.
The State Governor, Senator Douye Diri made this known at the 1st International Deep Seaport Investment Forum (IDSIF 2026) held in Lagos on Monday, March 30 2026.
The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner, Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Faith Izibenua Zibs-Godwin at the event emphasized the project’s strategic edge, saying :”We are not merely building a port. We are laying the foundation for an integrated maritime and logistics ecosystem,” the message stated, underscoring its role in driving export expansion, job creation, and Nigeria’s blue economy boom.
According to Diri, prime location, natural draft would draw Investors’ interest
nestled along 120 kilometers of Atlantic coastline in the Gulf of Guinea, adding that Agge boasts natural deep-draft conditions ideal for large vessels, direct access to international shipping routes, and proximity to the Niger Delta’s oil, gas, agriculture, and fisheries sectors.
He noted that”This setup promises a diversified cargo base, decongestion of Nigeria’s overburdened ports, and scalable operations serving West Africa’s growing trade demands.
“Positioned along a strategic maritime corridor, Agge offers the critical fundamentals for a competitive, efficient port,” the message highlighted.
Investors, he noted stand to tap into logistics, supply chains, marine value chains, port-based industries, and thousands of direct/indirect jobs—fueling long-term returns in a sector ripe for Nigeria’s economic diversification beyond oil.
The Bayelsa Governor pointed out that the project enjoys strong federal support from Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, who has deployed a technical team to collaborate with the state on regulatory, technical, and implementation frameworks.
The Bayelsa Governor urged “credible investors, port developers, maritime operators, and development institutions” to partner, promising transparent regulations, innovative financing, and institutional support.

Bayelsa envisions Agge as more than infrastructure—it’s an economic catalyst enhancing Nigeria’s global trade competitiveness.
With demands for sustainable funding, coordination, and private-public ties, the state government boss expressed readiness to fast-track the project from vision to reality.
Governor Diri’s message concluded by saying “Through strategic investment, innovation, and sustained collaboration, Nigeria’s coastal states can unlock the immense economic potential of our maritime domain.”
