Managing Director of the Bayelsa Electricity Company, Engr. Olice Kemenanabo has assured Bayelsans that power will be restored soon in the state, with the completion of rehabilitation of the vandalized towers in Ahoada, Rivers State.

Engr. Kemenanabo gave the assurance while inspecting the final rehabilitation works on the 132KV double circuit transmission line that radiates from Ahoada to Yenagoa transmission station.

“By the close of work today, I will call on the attention of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Port Harcourt region, to carry out a joint inspection of the line, and then, we begin to process for the commissioning of the line.

Let it be clear that these assets do not belong to the Bayelsa State government but owned by the TCN. It is because the Bayelsa State government has the people they are serving at heart, that is why we have to mobilize resources and support to intervene on the network,” Engr. Kemenanabo stated.

On the planned protest, the managing director urged the organizers to direct their protest to the right channel being the TCN, stating that, government is committed to restoring power in the state.

“This thing happened on the 29th of July this year, and since then, we have been battling with one form of challenge or the other. You recall that we had already completed the rehabilitation of the original scope of the towers that collapsed. Then on the 19th of October, some hoodlums between Ahoada and Ula Ikata, went and vandalized a phase out of one circuit on that line between Tower 29 and 31, and that has also been completed this afternoon.

This is a very technical issue. We have completed the rehabilitation of the towers, and then, completed the transmission and stringing of the lines as well. We will carry out a pre-commissioning exercise by patrolling from Ahoada to Igbogene and up to the transmission station in Yenagoa. I can guarantee that very soon power will be restored”, he stated.
