There are strong indications that the Shipping Line Agencies have concluded plans to engage the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria over issues bothering on poor remuneration for members of the Shipping branch.
Recall that the union on two occasions in 2020, had announced 21 ultimatum to declare state of emergency for the shipping companies .
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) affiliate union said it was constrained to declare state of emergency on shipping companies operating in Nigeria, adding that the release was intended to inform the general public about the irresponsible attitude of the multinationals, saying if the employers continued to ignore its call, it would have no option than to swing in actions.
But insider sources from the union and companies confirmed to our correspondent that Wednesday has been fixed for a meeting .
The sources also disclosed that the employers and leaders of the union would negotiate and proffer solution on the current salary structure of workers.
They also disclosed that the meeting is scheduled to hold in Apapa Lagos.
