At Last Cargo Train Evacuated From Lagos Port Complex After Four Days

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) have proffered solution to the cargo train that collapsed at the Lagos Port Complex (LPC) for four days.

DAILYFOCUS NEWS ONLINE had reported exclusively on Saturday, that the collapsed train impeded movement of cargoes in and out of port for days,even as port users frowned at the development.

Confirming the evacuated, however, a Port Facility Security Officer, Lagos Port Complex ,name withheld , said urgent steps have been taken to evacuated the ill-fated train as at Saturday afternoon.

He added that both the NPA and the Nigerian Railways Corporation were able to fix the train, saying that the empty containers laden vehicle has left the rail track at the Apapa Port.

He told our correspondent that  “The Port Management of Lagos Port Apapa had engaged representatives of the Nigerian Railways on urgent steps aimed at addressing the train blocking part of our access road within the Port since yesterday and our concerted efforts had yielded fruitful results as the blocked access was cleared this afternoon.

Though messages put across to the NPA spokesman, Engineer Alex Jatto proved abortive on how the train was finally evacuated but the Deputy Director , Public Relations , Nigerian Railway Corporation, Yaqub Mahmud told our correspondent that ,” I don’t think it is proper for you to call me on Sunday for such issues.

” It would have been better to call me on Monday so that I can give you the necessary information.

”This is not a national issue and I don’t think it proper calling on Sunday”,he added.
