Worried about workers protection, the Association of Senior Staff of Banks Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSIBIFI) has raised concerns about the safety of lives of her members , even as it has directed bank workers to stay at home in any state or bank branches where there is violence until normalcy is restored.
A statement signed by ASSIBIFI National President, Mr. Olusoji Oluwole said the National Secretariat of the Association has been inundated with reports of threats and attacks on the lives and properties of members.
The Senior Staff Association which is an affiliate of the Trade Union Congress TUC, appeal to concern authorities and government to ensure the safety of bank workers and properties.
The Association said on Friday 17th of February 2023, one bank at Epe, in Lagos state was under attack.
It said the order became necessary as it cannot leave the lives of members to danger.
Reports from Ogun and Lagos state today said there were serious disturbances in Ifo, Sango Otta in Ogun state, Ikorodu area, Ojota and Igando, Ajegunle of Lagos state.
Meawhile, there are reported riots in some parts of Oyo States on Friday morning, with reports that an unspecified number of casualties are already recorded, as the police say they are bringing the situation under control.
This was coming after APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu and some state governors’ opposition to President Muhammadu Buhari’s refusal to obey the Supreme Court’s order to allow old naira notes to be used as legal tender concurrently with the new notes.
