ASSET DECLARATION: Masari Advocates Strict Compliance To State Public Office Holders
Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari has declared open, a two day workshop on strict compliance with assets declaration and code of conduct for Katsina state public office holders.
Addressing the participants at the Mamman Dawai Conference Hall of the Katsina State Local Government Service Commission, Katsina, Governor Masari explained that the state government sponsored the workshop in line with its policy on transparency and accountability in running of government business by public appointees and career officers.
Alhaji Masari emphasized that the workshop, which comprises participants drawn from the top echelon of the state service, was meant to acquaint both political and public office holders of the code of conduct as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Similarly, Masari explained that the workshop was envisaged to enrich and guide participants on ways to maintain high standard of morality and accountability in the conduct of government business.
He reminded participants that the positions being occupied were based on public trust which must be maintained and sustained for the overall well being of the people and in their own interests and for accountability in the hereafter.
He also used the occasion to remind participants that the successes recorded by the APC administration in critical sectors, which have been sustained despite the current insecurity and financial challenges were due, largely to prudent and judicious utilisation of public resources, without which the state government could have been in the league of states owing worker’s salaries and other entitlements.
The Governor enjoined participants to put all efforts in consolidating the various laudable projects and programmes initiated and implemented by the present APC administration.
This, he said could only be realised through ensuring transparency, decorum, accountability as well as judicious utilisation of public resources.
While wishing participants fruitful and successful deliberations, the Governor expressed appreciation to the Code of Conduct Bureau for organizing the worthwhile workshop in the state.
He expressed the hope that participants would be well Informed on the objective of assets declaration and the imperative of strict adherence to the code of conduct, which would facilitate delivery of policies and programmes that are aimed at improving the socio- economic well being of people in the state.
Earlier in a welcome remarks, the Head of the Civil Service of the state, Alhaji Idris Usman Tune, said the workshop was part of the resolve of APC administration to accord priority to training and staff development aimed at improving performance of the workforce for enhanced productivity as well as raising standard of morality of public servants.
He asked participants to strive to conform with the guidelines of asset declaration as well as oath of allegiance in taking appointments as the guiding principle in conducting government business.
He further asked them to have the fear of the creator who will judge conduct of actions in the hereafter.
In a keynote address, the Executive Chairman of code of conduct bureau, Professor Isah Mohammed said that the workshop was organized as part of the functions of the bureau enshrined in sections 16, 107, 172,173, 209, 292 and 318 of the construction of the 1999 federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Aminu Bello Masari for sponsoring the workshop in the interest of enhancement of morality and accountability.
He requested participants to put into practice the rudiments of the workshop for public service development in the state.
