Aregbesola Canvasses Spirit Of Regimentation Among Agencies Under Interior Ministry

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has charged the  top Management staff of the Ministry and its  agencies to inculcate the spirit of  regimentation to the service  with a view to   take the exercise with all seriousness for the Ministry to get the best result and ensure effective service delivery.

Aregbesola stated this  during the 2022 performance  Review Meeting of the Ministry and its Services /board  at Dambazau Hall Nigeria Correctional Headquarters, Airport Road ,Abuja.

According to him “We therefore instituted this meeting, to set agenda for performance and to evaluate our activities. In the course of the meetings, we also review previous meetings and the issues discussed, to ensure that we are indeed making progress. I am glad to note that these meetings have been helpful in keeping us on the path of rectitude.”

“In addition, the Ministry and its Services/Board operational activities were measured by the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) which entails baseline, target, status update with weight and scoring both self-score/evaluator score to which the performance of each Service is rated.” Aregbesola reiterated.

He stressed that we will recalled that the nine priority areas of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Administration are, namely: Stabilizing the macro-economy, increase agricultural productivity and food security, ensure energy sufficiency, improve transportation and other infrastructure, drive industrialization, improve health, ensure energy sufficiency, education and productivity of Nigeria, enhance social inclusion by scaling up social investment, fight corruption, improve governance and provide security for all citizens.

Aregbesola stated further that the Regular Quarterly Performance Review meeting enables the Ministry and its Services/Board stay focused on achieving their mandates towards realising the nine priority areas of this administration.

“I have no doubt that we have made giant strides in all aspects of the Ministry and the Services. These cover reforms in passport administration and border management, expanding the scope of fire and disaster management across the country, expanding the scope and capability in combating crimes and providing security and revolutionising correctional services.” Aregbesola revealed.

 

“However there are still large grounds to be covered. Insecurity is still a challenge in many parts of the country, indeed, virtually in every part. I still personally get complaints from those who have been short-served on passport application. Same way I get inundated with calls and complaints when there is a fire incident or natural disaster in which we couldn’t be of much or any assistance.

 

Issues relating to untoward activities in our custodial centres suggesting collusion between officials and inmates pop up now and then in the news, Aregbesola emphasized.

 

He further declared: “our administration will wind down on May 29 and another administration will begin. That should be 60 days from now, minus when the cabinet will be formally dissolved. It has been my style to begin a countdown and prepare for my exit.

 

Chief Obafemi Awolowo, on the eve of his departure from the cabinet of the then General Yakubu Gowon, in replying to the toast, told the gathering that ‘If we are related, we shall meet again’”Aregbesola disclosed.

 

Ealier in his welcome address, The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior ,Dr Shuaib Belgore said; he is happy with the edition of this routine Performance Review Meeting which has provided a veritable platform of engagement between the Ministry and its services .

 

Belgore added that without this type of gathering ,grey areas and aspects that require improvements in the service delivery would not have been easily identified.

 

“May I also remind you that the current administration of the President Muhammadu Buhari, since inception, has prioritised efficient and effective service delivery, which is evident in the establishment of the Central Delivery Coordination Unit(CDCU), domiciled in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), from which the Quarterly Performance Review Committee takes precedence to ensure the achievements of the Nine (9) priority areas  and Ministerial Deliverables of the Federal Government,” Belgore added.

 

Dignitaries present at the Quarterly Review Meeting includes Controller General Federal Fire Service , Engr. Olola Jaji Abdulganiyu, Controller General Nigeria Correctional Service, Aliyu Baba, Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr. Abubakar Audi, by Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Idris Jere represented and all Directors of the Ministry of Interior.
