Apapa Customs, NDLEA Bust 347.5kg Cannabis Haul At Lagos Seaport

In a swift joint operation, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Apapa Port Command and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seized 347.5 kilograms of Canadian Loud—a potent cannabis strain—hidden inside an imported Toyota Sienna vehicle at the Lagos Ports Complex LPC.

 

The bust happened less than 24 hours after Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, Customs Area Controller (CAC) at Apapa Port, received a World Customs Organisation (WCO) Certificate of Merit.

Customs Public Relations Officer for Apapa Port Command, Chief Superintendent of Customs Isah Sulaiman, confirmed in a statement on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, that weighing showed ten bags at 25kg each, one at 29kg, and two at 34.5kg and 34kg, totaling 347.5kg.

The spokesman noted that officers and men of both agencies found the drugs in 13 bags concealed within one of four vehicles in a single import consignment.

Sulaiman noted that this is the fourth major joint drug interception by NCS and NDLEA at Apapa Port under two months.

This , he said It reflects Comptroller Oshoba’s stance on no cargo—import or export—passes without thorough checks.

Comptroller Oshoba was quoted warning, that “Any attempt by criminal elements to traffic prohibited items through Apapa Port will be detected and thwarted.

“We remain vigilant and resolute in protecting our society and national security.”

He praised the inter-agency collaboration led by Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, PhD, saying intelligence sharing and joint efforts have consistently outmaneuvered smuggling networks in Nigeria’s maritime sector.

 

Oshoba highlighted the upcoming 200-container-per-hour drive-through scanner to boost tech-driven anti-smuggling operations . Both agencies’ procedures ensure zero tolerance, professionalism, and seamless cooperation.

The seized cannabis has been handed to NDLEA for investigation and prosecution.This success follows WCO Certificates of Merit awarded to Oshoba and NDLEA Apapa Special Area Commander Mohammed Tukur on 26 January 2026 in Abuja, tied to International Customs Day in Nigeria.

The interception fits the 2026 ICD theme: “Customs Protecting Society Through Vigilance and Commitment.”

However, the CAC recommits to smooth legitimate trade while crushing illicit activities.
