ANTI-GRAFT WAR: EFCC Seeks Greater Collaborations With NIS, NDLEA, Customs At Airport

The Lagos Zonal Commander of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ahmed Ghali, has sought enhanced collaborations with relevant security agencies at both the international and local wings of the Muritala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, as a way of tackling the menace of economic and financial crimes.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the office of the Comptroller, Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, A.A. Adesokan, on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, Ghali stated that the NIS had been a very critical agency in the fight against economic and financial crimes.

He said: “We want you to continue supporting us in the best way you can via data analysis, information sharing and watch listing of suspects.

“We also want to commend the giant strides you have achieved with the Nigerian passports; and so far, we have had less issues with it.”

Responding, Adesokan commended the EFCC on its continuous efforts to rid the country of economic and financial crimes.

Adesokan also used the opportunity to seek collaboration with the EFCC in the areas of training and sensitization.

Also, during a courtesy visit to the office of the Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, MMIA, Lagos Command, Usman Ali Wadar, the EFCC Lagos Zonal Commander reiterated the need for synergy and cooperation with the agency in the areas of intelligence sharing and data.

In his response, Wadar, who expressed his gratitude over the visit, stated that the Agency would continue to support the Commission to achieve its mandates.

Wadar added that the existing relationship would be further strengthened to achieve the common goal, which is redeeming the image of the country.

In his remarks during a visit to the office of the Head of Operations, Bi-Courtney Services Limited, Lagos, Blessing Ewah, Ghali pleaded for space for the display of banners and other public enlightenment materials on the activities of the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering, SCUML, in line with the recently passed Anti-money laundering laws, for the purpose of sensitizing people on the provisions of the laws.

In her remarks, Ewah assured that the request would be looked into so that the anti-corruption messages could be passed to the target audience.

In the same vein, Ghali, during an interaction with Mohammed Gidado, Area Controller, Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Command, Lagos, expressed hope that the existing relationship between the Commission and the NCS would be sustained for the overall benefit of the country.

In his response, Gidado assured the EFCC of a better working relationship and expressed his readiness to assist the Commission where the need arises.

In a related development, the Commander of the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Commission, Harry Erin, while receiving the Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kaduna, Zubairu Mato who paid a familiarization visit to him on January 26, 2023, commended the Corps for its assistance to the Commission over the years, particularly in confirming the identities of fraud suspects.
