ANLCA’s Advocacy Group Donates Protective Equipment To NPA.

The Advocacy for Maritime Development Association of Nigeria on Friday donated some Personal Protective Equipment PPE to the management of Tin Can Island Port Complex (TCIPC), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

Advocacy for Maritime Development Association of Nigeria is a socio cultural group with membership drawn from it’s parent body, the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA).

The items which includes hand gloves and face masks were received by the Port Manager , TCIPC ,Alhaji Umar Abubakar Garba on behalf of the Managing Director of the NPA.

The group led by the President, Segun Alabi to the office of the TCIPC Port Manager, said the gesture was borne out of the concern to make sure that port users within the axis carry out their jobs without being exposed to the danger of covid 19.

He said that the spread of the pandemic which had wrecked havoc globally needed to be curtailed hence the need to make such equipment available for the use of the people entering the port.

Alabi’s words, “Tincan has been our base, some of us came from our villages with only nylon bag but by the grace of God, most people you see here today, most of them are now Managing Directors of multiple companies and they have houses everywhere courtesy Tin Can Port.

“So, that is why we need to cone and see you first of all to say thank you for housing us even though it is Seaview that gave us the property but at the same time, it is NPA’s property.

“We came purposely because if you look at the trend of events globally, coronavirus has dealt with the world and over two million people have died as a result.

“As a socially responsible organisation, we feel it is our own responsibility to come to you not just to come and greet you but to present our token. It might look small bit the intention that we have.

“We found out that in the last one month when the lockdown commenced, we found people accessing the port without being protected, we decided to buy these equipment and give to your health department through you so that you can help us give them to people within the port as our own fight against the corona virus.

“Lauding the gesture of the group, the Port Manager,said that the donation would go a long way adding that at the time when people were expecting from the government, the advocacy group decided to give.

Garba said, “Little drops make an ocean.

“From what we have seen with people, no one wants to donate, people are always looking out to government to give them but when you say you are coming to give to people, we must appreciate you.

“Thank you very much for this gesture,” he concluded.
