ANLCA Vice President Tenders Apologies To National Executives Over WCO Letter

Vice President, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Dr. Kayode Farinto has apologized to the national executives of the association over his comments on  World Customs Organization.

 

Recall that the  National President of the Association ,Chief Tony Iju Nwabunike recently queried his Deputy,  over a purported ,  letter written to the international body of customs brokers which addresses the alleged discrepancies in valuation by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

 

The  Nwabunike led administration of the association had slammed a query on his Deputy, asking him to “explain why severe disciplinary action(s) should not be taken against him on the following grounds: Writing a letter in the name of ANLCA to the Secretary-General of the World Customs Organisation (WCO), dated 03/08/020 with reference no ANLCA/WCO/VOL042/08/020 without the authority of the Association.”

 

In the query, the National President had explained that the said letter to the WCO which was not authorized by the National body was in total violation of section 3(a), (d) and (e) of the association constitution as amended; and that because sub-section 2(c) under section 7 of ANLCA constitution provides that the Deputy President is the Chairman of the National Disciplinary Committee of the association, he is hereby recused from this function as he cannot be a judge in his own case, in line with the principle of ” Nemo Judex In Causa Sha.

 

Meanwhile, Farinto , while dismissing rumours of in fighting among the national executives of the association tendered his apologizes over failure to seek the consent of the national president , before  issuance of the letter.

 

Speaking at a press conference held in Lagos on Wednesday, Farinto who also doubles as the Managing Director , Wealthy Honey Investment Limited , in a parable said :”Between the buccal cavity, there is always a misunderstanding between the teeth and tongue and when they settle they don’t call the air.

 

“I will use that parable to tell you that we don’t have crisis in ANLCA because we don’t have two president. Am just the vice president and to step in when the president is not around.

 

He said ” Ideally, I should have seek the permission of the president on the  letter written to WCO but I must apologize to you .I want to let you all know that we don’t  have any problem in ANLCA.”

 

“We don’t have any problem and from today we are moving forward. The problem we have in this part of the world is that some people when they err they find it difficult to say sorry am not one of those because am an enlightened person we don’t have problem.

 

In his response, Nwabunike reiterated that the association is one indivisible body , saying the vice president and general secretary can grant interview with approval from him.

 

The President said ” He (Farinto) has tendered an apology and we have apologized to him too because if a wife and husband do not have misunderstanding then they will not leave longer.

 

“So know this today that its a continuous process and let me say that every interview and conferences will emaninate from this secretariat henceforth and that I am assuring you all.

 

” He (Farinto) can grant interview but we will know, the secretary can grant interview but we will know . ANLCA is one indivisible body from now henceforth”, Nwabunike added
