AIG Maritime Police Pledges Enhanced Collaboration With Customs To Strengthen Port Security
The Assistant Inspector General, Maritime Police Command, AIG Chinedu Oko, has assured stakeholders in the port industry of sustaining the existing inter-agency collaboration to ensure better protection of lives and properties.
Oko made this known when the newly posted Customs Area Controller of Apapa Port Command, Nigeria Customs Service , Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, paid a working visit to his office in Lagos.
Oko pledged to consolidate past achievements, strengthen inter-agency collaboration, and introduce innovations to enhance trade facilitation at Nigeria’s busiest port.
In a statement on Thursday made available to DAILYFOCUS NIGERIA, the AIG Maritime Command, in his remarks, welcomed the Customs delegation and assured them of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to cooperation and mutual support.

The AIG noted that both agencies share the same goals of security and national service, emphasizing that their joint efforts would improve existing operations.
He stressed the importance of police partnership in maintaining security and industrial harmony within the port corridor, noting that collaboration is essential for achieving seamless cargo clearance and sustaining investor confidence.
He also highlighted the Service’s adoption of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) scheme, an initiative designed to fast-track compliant traders’ cargo movement with minimal interference.
Speaking during the courtesy visit, the Customs Area Controller outlined three key policy thrusts of the Comptroller-General of Customs—consolidation, collaboration, and innovation.
