The Assistant Inspector General of Police overseeing the Maritime Police Command, AIG Musa Yusuf Garba, psc(+), IIPS, PSPS, welcomed managers of Bonded Terminals from across Lagos State to the Command Headquarters in Obalende recently.

According to a statement by ASP Adebayo Rasheed, Police Public Relations Officer, Maritime Police Command, FHQ Annex, Lagos, over the weekend, the AIG Garba underscored the critical need for collaboration between the Police Command and terminal managers to effectively combat crime within Nigeria’s maritime sector.

During the meeting, he pledged unwavering support to terminal operators and reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining an open-door policy that encourages ongoing dialogue and engagement.

AIG Garba highlighted the vital role of the Police in securing the maritime domain, emphasizing that the protection of lives and property remains a top priority. He issued a stern warning against economic sabotage, reiterating his zero-tolerance approach and readiness to prosecute any offenders operating within the maritime space.

The engagement further represented a proactive step towards building stronger partnerships that promote compliance, security, and sustainable economic activity in Nigeria’s maritime industry.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Inspector General of Police on Friday, 25th April 2025, attended the concluding ceremony of the General Conference on Maritime Security hosted by the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Unit of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) in Lagos.

In his goodwill message at the conference, AIG Musa Yusuf Garba commended the ISPS Unit of NIMASA for fostering dialogue, synergy, and strategic partnerships among key players in the maritime sector.

He emphasized that such discussions are critical in achieving full compliance with the ISPS Code, thereby positioning Nigeria as an ISPS- compliant nation.

This, he noted, would significantly boost international trade, stimulate economic growth, and increase maritime traffic to the country.

Reaffirming the commitment of the Maritime Police Command, AIG Musa Yusuf Garba pledged continued collaboration with all stakeholders to safeguard Nigeria’s maritime assets, enforce relevant laws, and promote a secure environment that supports sustainable economic activity.

He further assured that the Command remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and ISPS compliance of Nigeria’s ports, as well as maintaining security across the country’s inland waterways.

The conference, organized by the ISPS Unit of NIMASA, aimed to update stakeholders on the status of ISPS Code implementation and to provide a platform for proposing opportunities for improvement.

This year’s theme was “Maritime Security: A Collaborative Approach to Enhancing Nigeria’s Blue Economy.”
