Advocacy Group Elects New Excos , Pledges Welfare Scheme For Members

The Advocacy for Maritime Development Association of Nigeria has pledged a social insurance scheme for its members in a bid to provide succour for future endeavours.

 

The group said it has become imperative for members to have insurance covers due to the nature of their business, as customs brokers and freight forwarders.

 

Newly elected President of the group, Oluwasegun Alabi said this on Thursday after emerging in a keenly contested election that held in Lagos.

 

He said, “One of the things we are going to be doing in the next few years is to first of all straighten the relationship among our members.

 

“Members welfare is very key to us and as you all know, our trade is clearing. We intend to engage those institutiins that can help our trade.

 

“For now, members don’t have any social welfare. We are trying to bring in an insurance policy that will give us guarantee.

 

“We used to think that as Customs agents, we cannot be pensioned, a lot of insurance companies to have called me that there is insurance for us and we are talking to the insurance companies to bring in this policy so that we can sell the idea to our members and become part of the policy.

 

Meanwhile the association elected new set of officials to pilot its affairs for the next two years.

 

At the end of the process, Mr Segun Alabi emerged as President, he defeated Mr. Mojeed Akanbi by polling 8 votes against 7 votes.

 

Secretary of the association is Fatimehin Oluwatope, Financial Secretary is Alhaji Popoola Hakeem, Social Secretary is Babatunde Adekoya, Treasurer is Alhaji Wasiu Azeez, the Public Relations Officer is Emmanuel Onyeme.

 

Part of his promises for the association include setting up a secretariat for members.
