Apparently satisfied with his leadership style, the Michael Imoundu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS) on Monday, honoured the President General, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Adewale Adeyanju with a fellow award.
Representatives from the institute expressed satisfaction for Comrade Adeyanju contributions to the union positively on labour related matters.
The MINILS representatives include: Deputy Director, Academy and Distance Learning Programme, Dr. Sylvanus Adamade and Mr. Theophilus Adekunle, who is also a Deputy Director respectively.
The award ceremony which held at national secretariat of the union, was in line with the institute 40 years celebration of existence.
Comrade Adeyanju was said to be absent during the ceremony which held recently due to national assignments.
Speaking, on behalf of the Director General of the Institute, Comrade Isah Aremu, Dr. Adamade reiterated that Adeyanju had done a lot for the workers to deserve the recognition and award.
He added that the PG has been doing a great job through training and retraining opportunities afforded the members of the union.
According to him, the union has been promoting decent work place which he said was responsible for the enduring peace in the industry.
He however solicited for more supports from the union in future engagements.
In his acceptance speech, Adeyanju while appreciating the leadership of the Institute, dedicated the award to the four branches of the union.
He recalled how the Institute had carried out a training for the leadership of the union in the United States of America in 2014 saying the Institute sharpened his knowledge of unionism.
He therefore quipped that the award would only spur him to do fight more for the welfare of the workers.
Advising members at the event, he said everybody has his own time of manifestation.
Speaking, the recipient thanked management of the school for the recognition of MWUN activities in port operations.
The President General stated that the institute has impacted positively on him about labour related issues noting that the award was suppose to come earlier in Abuja before today’s ceremony.
According to him,” The fellow award is dedicated to members from the four branches of the union adding that “I will remain grateful to all the Dockworkers and if am not a docker today I don’t think I will be where I am today.
“If I should come back to this world again I will remain a docker. The era of using us as soldier hire is gain and picking us along the road is no more.
“This investiture is for me to do more and I know will be to do more to make sure that we are happy with our profession.
“Today we don’t make trouble but don’t put your hands in our throat because we will bite.
He further commended the institute for training of workers saying that MWUN will partner the academy for continuous training of members of the union across the four branches.
Adeyanju thanked members of the union and executives of the four branches for the support over the years as president general noting that the fellow honour could not be possible if not for collective efforts.
