Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri received the Philippine Ambassador to Nigeria, Rodrico Atienza, on August 7th, 2023, during his working visit to Adamawa. The meeting took place at the Government House in Yola.
During their discussion, Governor Fintiri emphasized the significance of Sukur Kingdom, Nigeriaโs first World Heritage Site. He advocated for more support from the diplomatic community, emphasizing the necessity of capacity building and other forms of assistance in enhancing the Siteโs attractiveness. This, in turn, would help to the expansion of the tourism sector not only in Adamawa, but also in Nigeria as a whole.
Governor Fintiri stated that his administration remains committed to providing the necessary infrastructure and resources to improve the Sukur World Heritage Site. He expressed his hope that the Ambassador’s visit would result in additional support, particularly in the field of education.
The Governor also noted the challenges faced by the community, such as teachersโ unwillingness to work in Sukur village, and reiterated the government’s commitment to provide equitable opportunity for the children there.
In response, Ambassador Rodrico Atienza shared his positive experience when visiting the Sukur World Heritage Site for the first time.
He expressed happiness and satisfaction with the restoration of relative peace in Sukur following the Boko Haram catastrophe. The Ambassador hoped for further diplomatic collaboration to help the Siteโs tourism potential.
Ambassador Atienza was accompanied by prominent figures such as Mrs. Malaime Mangzha, Director General of AFIDFF, an international organization promoting the Sukur landscape, representatives from the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM), Mr. Malaime Mangzha, and Hon. Sale Kinjir.
The meeting between Governor Fintiri and Ambassador Atienza signifies a collaborative effort to strengthen and promote the Sukur World Heritage Site, which will contribute to the regionโs growth and development.
