ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE : Customs Begins Investigation Into Jigawa Shooting Incident  Of Personnel 

The Nigeria Customs Service , Kano/Jigawa Area Command on Saturday, 27 May 2023 said it has began Investigations into the shooting incident by its personnel at Garki Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

Recall that Customs personnel at a checkpoint in Garki Local Government on Friday shot a colleague who was returning from Niger Republic, after he failed to stop for checks.

Customs personnel at the checkpoint allegedly became suspicious when the vehicle the officer identified as Muhammad Sayyadi, was travelling in failed to stop at the checkpoint.

But the command’s Public Relations Officer , Nura Saidu in a statement, assured that management will fully investigate the incident to determine the causes and circumstances behind incident.

According to him, management top priority is the well-being and safety of the victim and the larger community at a period of insecurity in the country, adding that accidental shootings are preventable tragedies, as all officers are consciously trained to secure and only use their firearms in appropriate and controlled environments.

The spokeman stated that “We regret the unfortunate incident that took place on Friday the 26th of May 2023 at  Garki Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

“Our hearts go out to all those affected by this tragic event, and we extend our deepest empathy to the family and friends of the victim.

“As a Service, we equally assure you that the Management will fully investigate the incident to determine the causes and circumstances.

“Our top priority is the well-being and safety of the victim and the larger community at this difficult time.
