EXPORT: Tin Can Customs Collects N68.887B In Six Months,Handles 150,930.7 MT Of Goods

Tin Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service on Thursday, said it collected total of 150,930.7 metric tonnes of exported goods with Free On Board (FOB) value estimated at  N68,887,226,493.00, between January and July 10th 2019.

 

It will be recalled that the command, during the preceding year of 2018, recorded 118,452.87MTS of export with FOB of N63,109,427.00.

 

The Command in statement made available to DAILYFOCUS NEWS ONLINE said it  collected a total of N179,275,629,170.74 within the period under review.

 

Customs Area Controller, Comptroller MBA  Musa was quoted saying  “Sequel to the urgent need for balance of trade through export, the command, during the period under review embarked on full automation of export procedures as a panacea for seamless transactions.

 

According to him ,  a  comparative review of the preceding  year 2018 indicated that the command realized N172,514,359,076.83.

 

He noted that  the latest report represents 52.28% of the annual target with a difference of N6,761,270,093.91from the record of the previous year.

 

A vivid analysis of revenue collection by the command include: N29,673,697,990.28 in January, N23,193,394,887.15 in February and N25,990,013,289.84 in March.

 

Similarly, in April the command recorded N27,787,537,749.98, May had N32,389,975,673.28 June N28,857,135,904.21.

 

Meanwhile, between July 1st to 10 2019, the command has collected  total of N11,383,873,676.00 .

 

He added : “The milestones recorded in the area of Export is clearly indicative of awareness by Stakeholders on the available opportunities inherent in Export business.

 

“The Command will continue to sensitize and encourage would be exporters. Following the renewed enthusiasm and development of Standard Operational Procedures (SOP) for operational efficiency.

 

“The Command has witnessed a major paradigm in its statutory functions.  This trajectory provided the needed impetus for the smooth implementation of the Presidential Directives on Ease of Doing Business.

 

“Generally speaking, it is instructive to note that the command has gone beyond Revenue Collection/generation, to creating an enabling environment for Legitimate businesses to thrive in line with the Presidential mandate, with the resolve by the Command to achieve speedy clearance of cargo from the Ports and also reduce the cost of doing business.

 

” It is all these several factors that has projected the command as a hub and most business friendly with remarkable profile,”he added.
