Traders Shut Computer Village To Protest Iyaoloja Installation

Traders in Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos, has grounded business activities at the popular hub , following the installation of female and male market leaders also known as “Iyaoloja” and “Babaloja” respectively.

 

Iyaoloja and babaoloja serve as representative to any given local market in Lagos State and can be described as market heads.

 

The aggrieved traders expressed dissatisfaction over what they described as imposition of market the leaders to an international market .

 

The merchandiser lamented that the market has no role with traditional leaders to govern activities of traders.

 

According to Ugochukwu Kachi ,a software Analyst, explained that the market can not be compared to conventional markets where perishable items are bought and sold to people.

 

He affirmed that “Computer village is not like any other market where food stuff and other items are sold.

 

“We will not accept the imposition because this market is an international technological hub and it should not be treated as such,” he said.

 

He further argued that the the imposition of the leaders would not make any positive impact to protect traders and the consumers saying that its installation is uncalled for.

 

Similarly, Mr. Abiodun Olagunju lamented that the imposition may affect the cost of items in the market adding that the installation of the Iyaoloja and Babaloja may lead to traders relocation from the hub.

 

He maintained that the imposition has no advantage to technological development to Lagosians , Nigerians and the country at large.

 

A Software developer, Mr Joseph Efosa, told newsmen that such installation would disturb the 25 years of peaceful existence of the hub.

 

Efosa said that the computer village was not a regular market and such installation was not needed.
