The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has achieved its highest-ever monthly revenue collection, generating ₦323 billion in July 2026 and setting a new benchmark for the Command.

The latest figure surpasses the ₦304 billion collected in October 2025, another record achieved under the leadership of Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba.

According to a statement, weekend, Comptroller Oshoba disclosed the latest performance at the Command’s monthly meeting with Deputy Comptrollers of Terminals and Unit Heads on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, attributing the remarkable growth to a combination of operational reforms, policy support, improved compliance and a more stable foreign exchange environment.

According to him, several reforms introduced by the NCS have improved efficiency and provided clearer direction for officers and stakeholders.

He particularly highlighted improvements to the B’Odogwu digital system, noting that although the platform initially encountered challenges, subsequent enhancements had strengthened its performance and contributed to better operational outcomes.

Oshoba also pointed to the One-Stop Shop (OSS) initiative as another major factor improving the trading environment. The initiative, he said, has reduced cargo delivery time and enhanced predictability for legitimate importers and other stakeholders.

He further identified the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme as a significant contributor to the Command’s revenue performance, noting that more than 200 beneficiaries are currently participating in the framework.

The Area Controller said intelligence-led enforcement has also played a key role in protecting government revenue. Officers and men of the Command have intensified efforts to identify false declarations and ensure compliance with approved valuation principles.

Beyond internal reforms, Oshoba credited the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, with creating a more favourable business environment, particularly through relative stability in the foreign exchange market.

He explained that greater predictability in the forex market enables businesses to plan more effectively, make informed decisions and operate with increased confidence.

However, the CAC challenged officers to look beyond routine revenue collection and identify additional ways of contributing to the Command’s performance.

The Area Controller commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, PhD, and the management of the Service for their sustained efforts to modernise customs operations.

“In your Area of Responsibility, you must ask yourself, apart from the normal revenue generated by your Unit, what is your own contribution in terms of intervention? What have I added?” he asked.

Oshoba also emphasised the need to sustain the Service’s trade facilitation agenda and improve the ease of doing business. He directed officers to resolve disputes promptly, while ensuring that consignments requiring further scrutiny are handled through proper documentation and the Post Clearance Audit (PCA) process.

On relations with stakeholders, the CAC urged officers to adopt a more professional and empathetic approach.

“When you interact with stakeholders, let them leave your office with hope rather than despair,” he said, stressing that customs personnel should build confidence and trust through professionalism, respect and collaboration.

He acknowledged the cooperation of stakeholders and sister government agencies, saying their support had contributed to improved compliance and greater order within the business environment.

The Area Controller also charged personnel to maintain transparency, discipline and professionalism while keeping pace with evolving digital processes. He encouraged officers to seek guidance from more experienced colleagues where necessary and to continue developing their professional capacity.

Oshoba described effective leadership as a collective responsibility, urging Staff Officers to work closely with Deputy Controllers to strengthen discipline and promote a healthy workplace founded on empathy, teamwork and concern for staff welfare.

He further directed officers to maintain heightened security awareness, strengthen supervision, undertake continuous in-house training and adhere strictly to approved procedures.

While congratulating officers of the Command and compliant stakeholders on the record ₦323 billion collection, the CAC cautioned that the achievement should not be viewed as an endpoint.

He urged the Command to build on the July milestone and pursue even greater improvements in productivity, compliance and service delivery as 2026 progresses.
