EID AL ADHA: MWUN Canvasses Action To Alleviate Poverty

The President-General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has joined muslims in Nigeria and worldwide in celebrating this year’s Eid al-Adha, while urging collective action to ease the severe poverty and hardship affecting millions of Nigerians.

Comrade Bunu commending Muslim communities for their resilience, tolerance and solidarity in the face of rising insecurity and economic strain across the country.

He observed that, despite difficult conditions in many regions, believers have shown faith in Allah’s mercy and continued mutual support during these trying times.

Expressing deep sympathy for vulnerable and innocent Nigerians who are bearing the brunt of the country’s economic challenges, the Ijaw-born labour activist emphasized that immediate steps are needed to improve living standards.

He called on governments at all levels to prioritize policies and programmes that directly reduce poverty, create jobs, and support low-income families so that Eid—and every day—brings tangible relief.

Comrade Bunu acknowledged the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to restore stability and address insecurity and inflation.

He urged continued and intensified focus on poverty-alleviation measures—cash transfers, targeted subsidies, skills training, and investments that generate sustainable employment—to ensure that economic recovery reaches ordinary citizens.

He urged Nigerians to sustain the spirit of Eid by showing compassion and assisting neighbors in need, reminding the public that collective goodwill and responsible governance are both essential to easing hardship. Comrade Bunu wished all Nigerians a peaceful and blessed Sallah.
