May Day: MWUN Urges FG To Tackle Insecurity, Improve Workers’ Welfare

The President General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu, has called on the Federal Government to urgently address the worsening insecurity across the country, stressing that no meaningful economic growth can happen in an unsafe environment.
Bunu made the call while speaking to journalists during the May Day celebration in Abuja on Friday. He said insecurity remains one of the biggest threats to national productivity, development and the welfare of Nigerian workers.
According to him, the condition of workers in Nigeria is already difficult, but the rising wave of insecurity has further deepened the hardship faced by citizens and made life even more uncertain.
The P- G said “No nation can develop when its people are living in fear. Security is the foundation for jobs, growth and national progress,” urging the government to take immediate and decisive action to restore peace and safety across the country,.
The unionist added that the current situation requires more than promises.
Apparently, worried, Bunu also noted that improved security would create a better environment for employment, business operations and workers’ welfare, while warning that continued insecurity could further weaken the economy.
He called on labour leaders across the country to remain vigilant and continue advocating for better wages and improved welfare packages, saying workers should not be left to bear the burden of economic instability alone.
The MWUN boss further appealed to the Federal Government to match words with action, insisting that Nigerians would readily appreciate any genuine improvement in security and living conditions.
He commended Nigerian workers for their resilience, dedication and contribution to national development despite the prevailing challenges, and expressed optimism that conditions in the maritime sector would improve.
