NNPP Chairman Distances Party Fom Opposition Summit, Urges INEC To Obey Court Orders Ahead Of 2027 Elections
Dr. Agbo Gilbert Major, National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has highlighted the party’s electronic membership drive, distancing it from a recent opposition coalition summit, and demanding that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) comply with court judgments.
Speaking on behalf of party founder Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, Major reported strong progress in the NNPP’s electronic membership registration launched two weeks ago.
He said the leadership has reviewed the exercise with stakeholders, including zonal and state chairmen, to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency. “Our goal remains to build a credible, technology-driven political institution that reflects the aspirations of Nigerians,” Major stated.
The NNPP categorically rejected involvement in the opposition parties summit in Ibadan, insisting no recognized leaders attended and warning against “impostors” – including expelled members – misusing the party’s name for relevance.
Major also detailed a recent meeting with INEC on April 23, reiterating demands to update the commission’s portal with the current National Working Committee (NWC) led by himself, per court orders. He warned that continued non-compliance could prompt calls for INEC Chairman’s removal to uphold the rule of law.
The chairman condemned alleged impersonation by expelled member Dr. Ahmed Ajuji, now with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), whose name appeared on a letter inviting INEC to verify outlawed members – a move Major called a violation of Court of Appeal judgments.
He urged Ajuji to investigate potential forgery to avoid legal consequences, pointing out that NNPP has submitted its 2027 election activities schedule to INEC and called for enforcement of key rulings, including those from Abia High Court (2024), FCT High Court (2025), and Owerri Court of Appeal (April 2026). These affirmed the exitl of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the Kwankwassiya group, and the defunct NWC under Ajuji. Major named individuals like Bala Mohammed and Dipo Olayoku as barred from representing the party, threatening legal action against impersonators.
As preparations intensify for 2027, Major positioned NNPP as “the beautiful bride” of Nigerian politics, inviting credible aspirants – up to presidential level – to join. The party reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy and national development.
