Jigawa Secures FAAN Approval For Cargo Equipment Installation At Dutse Airport

Governor, Malam Umar Namadi announced that the Jigawa State government has obtained approval from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to install essential cargo facilities at Dutse International Airport, advancing plans to establish it as a major cargo hub.

The governor shared this update on Sunday, February 22, 2026, during a facility inspection and calibration mission by a technical team from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

Speaking to journalists, Namadi highlighted the breakthrough from ongoing discussions with FAAN: saying, “They have already granted us approval to begin installing cargo facilities at the airport, in preparation for the full launch of the cargo airport.”

Namadi emphasized adherence to aviation best practices, commending the airport management for prioritizing safety through the calibration process.

“Today is an important day for us in our efforts to ensure that all airport facilities in Jigawa State operate in accordance with best practices,” the governor said.

He expressed confidence that Dutse Airport is already among Nigeria’s best and will maintain high standards with all facilities fully operational.

Speaking earlier, the NAMA team leader, Jim Hassan, clarified their mission’s objective by saying that they were in Dutse “specifically to check your navigational aids and ensure compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organization standards,” adding that, following the ground checks, the team will assess the performance of equipment to certify optimal operations.

Hassan explained their mission: conducting ground checks on navigational aids to ensure compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, followed by equipment performance assessments for certification.
